I am a translator specialized mostly in non-fiction. My working languages are Finnish, English and Italian. I translate many types of texts, including pharmacological brochures, SmPCs, PLs, medical device IFUs, reports, learning materials, research results, publicity, brochures, TV commercials, websites, correspondence, articles, forms and communications. In addition, I translate scientific literature and books that combine fiction and science. My clients include European and international companies, publishing houses, translation agencies and private and public citizens.
Fields of specialization:
Language pairs: English – Finnish, Italian – Finnish and Finnish – Italian (occasionally).
I specialized in foreign languages at secondary school and continued my language studies in Finland and in Italy: I graduated with a Master of Arts in music pedagogy, Italian language and art history in Finland. Then I moved to Italy, where I studied translation and modern languages at the University of L’Aquila and got a degree as “Dr.ssa di Lingue e culture moderne” (Bachelor of Arts, English major) in 2003. Later on I completed my studies at the Turku University, where I followed specialization courses on the translation of literary, legal and medical texts. I still participate in training courses for professional medical translators organized by SKTL (Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters).
I have been working in Italy since 2004 – I started as a freelance translator and teacher, continuing in the business sector where I worked for many years in the department of development and management of EU-financed projects. I performed the duties of an in-house translator and the person in charge of international contacts. In 2010 I started to work as a full-time freelance translator: this has allowed me to make good use of the knowledge I have gathered through the years in various sectors of specialization.
Translation experience in the following fields:
Medicine, pharmacology, medical devices, clinical research, health care, marketing, travelling, advertising, EU, cuisine, science of nutrition, music, art history, archaeology, education and training.
Years’ experience as a translator in a private company (in the project development and management department, where projects relative to training, culture and health care were handled).
As a freelance translator I have been able to gain lots of experience in translating medical and pharmacological texts and texts related to medical devices.
I am member of the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters (SKTL): I participate in various courses organized by the Association in order to keep my skills and knowledge up to date.
In 2010 Kone Foundation awarded me with a grant for translating a book that combines fiction with science: ”A Day in the Life of Ancient Rome” by Alberto Angela (the book was published in 2011). I have also translated two other books of the same series related to archeology and ancient Rome (they were published in Finland in 2014 and 2015). In addition I have translated two remarkable cookery books into Finnish, one in 2012 and the other in 2013 (“Sausages” by Paul Gayler and “Pig” by Johnnie Mountain”).
I have studied medical and legal translation at the Turku University and I participate in SKTL training courses for medical translators. Most part of my non-fiction translation regards medicine and relative documents: clinical research documents (like ICFs, RMP summaries, correspondence with authorities), pharmacological texts (PILs, SmPCs etc.), medical device texts (for example IFUs, DFUs). In my work I always take account of EMA templates, MedDra terminology, EDQM’s Standard Terms and all the recommendations published by FIMEA. I have translation experience for example in the following specializations and fields: cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, gynecology, internal medicine, oncology, orthopedics, pharmacology, surgery, urology, surgical instruments, suture materials, endoscopes, catheters and stents, implants, imaging and scanning devices, dialysis machines, medical software, various applications and UIs.
The most important professional values for me are reliability, accuracy, flexibility and high quality. I do my best to fulfill clients’ expectations and I always respect deadlines. You can contact me at my e-mail address - I try to answer as soon as possible. If it is something urgent, you can always contact me on: +39-3349908309.
Cost of a translation depends on difficulty and urgency of the translation and the quantity of possible research the translation requires. Rate is calculated by word (€/word) and the calculation is based on source text. A discount is applied to long texts.
Recommendations published by SKTL (Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters (http://www.sktl.fi) are applied to all assignments.
